Preliminary Training Faculty has been established in 2001. It involved two departments: a preliminary courses department and a preliminary training department for foreigners. The mission of the faculty is to provide a more effective training in specializations in accordance with the educational methodology of the University.
The preliminary courses are organized three times a year:

8-month courses (evening coursers and corresponding courses) (October -May),

3-month weekend courses (January-April)
- Three weeks "fast-track" courses taken directly before admission tests.
The graduates with secondary education may be admitted to the courses. They take courses in mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, Russian and Belarusian languages. All the students are able to use these courses to improve their secondary education. The academic staff consists of experienced ISEU lecturers.
International students are accepted to these courses first to study Russian as a language for communication and information interexchange, and secondly to take courses in mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology. The study process is adjusted according to the national features of students and is facilitated by the special educational background of the teachers. Graduates of the Preliminary Training Faculty who successfully pass their tests, receive a certificate which grants the right not only to enter ISEU, but other Belarusian higher educational institutions as well.
The training of future experts begins at secondary schools, with which ISEU successfully cooperates. Among them are gymnasiums, lyceums and educational centres of Belarus. University lecturers provide assistance to school teachers in natural sciences and environmental training.
One of the basic tasks of the faculty is to enable future students of the Intenational Sakharov Environemntal University to join activities related to nature conservation and environmental protection. There is an "Environmentall Monitoring Centre" joined with the faculty. Its activity includes an ongoing project “Our big care of small rivers”. Using biological indicators students can participate in the assessment of the condition of rivers and reservoirs. They can also practice carrying out the sanitary certification of wells, springs and other reservoirs to assist their effective usage. Young ecologists discover and fix on maps locations and quantity of pollutants in natural waters. At present there are 1,500 school participants. By solving different problems of environmental protection we will meet the challenge of treating the environment carefully.

Goal of the faculty is to provide an effective preliminary training for further higher education.
Faculty activities include training of students from number of schools and educational centers of Belarus. The teachers of the university provide assistance to school teachers in natural-sciences and environmental training in order to embark graduates on their further research career.
2. Courses provided
2.1. Courses for native citizens
The preliminary courses are organized three times a year. The graduates and people who have secondary education can be taken for the courses. They take courses in mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, Russian and Belarusian languages. All the entrants are able to use these courses to improve their secondary education.
2.2. International Pre-university Training Program
Eligibility: Foreigners with complete secondary education or equivalent are welcome to participate in the program.
Program description: International Pre-university Training Program is organized every year. The deadline for documents is September 1. Program starts on October 20 and lasts 8 months. The first 3 months are dedicated to study of Russian language only (30 hours per week). Other classes (mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology) are provided during next 5 months together with the further inquiry of language. The study process is adjusted according to the national features of students and is facilitated by the special educational background of the teachers.Graduates, who have successfully passed their exams, receive a certificate which grants the right to be admitted not only to SEU, but also to other Belarusian higher educational institutions. Training fee applies.

The faculty also provides a special course “Russian as a foreign language”, that includes 760 hours of intensive training.
Assessment and selection procedure: Applications are reviewed by an admission committee composed of Pre-University training faculty members and members of International Department. Applicants will be assessed on the basis of their application forms and their teachers' recommendations. All recommendations will be required from the referees indicated directly by the members of an admission committee. Candidates successfully passed the selection procedure will be informed during a month after deadline.
