RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT

Research and development works at the university are carried out on the following contemporary directions:

  1. Development of ways and means of environmental monitoring, management of environmental safety, complex appraisal of environmental system condition and of human health.
  2. Development of new ways of laboratory and molecular medicine in the sphere of medical environmental monitoring.
  3. Development of ways of environmental information analysis on the basis of modern informational technologies.
  4. Development of theoretical and methodological fundamentals of complex use of eco-priority energy sources.
  5. Perfection and practical realization of environmental education in Belarus and CIS countries.

The university carries out a research on problems concerned with alleviation of Chernobyl disaster consequences. The influence of small doses of chronicle exposure on human and animal organisms, changing their functions and modification of biomolecules suffered by ionizing radiation including other impact factors are studied there. New methods for measuring ionizing radiation are processed, for instance, body counter for strontium-90.

As a result of implementation in the last years of research engineering and R&D works:

  • Combined scintillation beta-gamma-detector for measurement of strontium 90 in human body “in vivo” was developed. It has no analogues as far as technical characteristics are concerned. It will be included into the structure of information-measuring complex “Expert beta-gamma-radiation spectrometer”.
  • Experimental sample of gamma-canal of expert beta-gamma-radiation spectrometer was developed. On its basis at “Atomteh” (Minsk) specialized gamma-radiation spectrometer was developed, and production chain of its modification was made. IAEA has recommended the given device as the basic for re-equipment of radiation monitoring services in Russia, Ukraine and Belarus.
  • Cartograms of industrial wastes into the air of carbon oxides, nitric oxides, sulfur oxides, hydrocarbon and aerosol pollutants were made for 6 regions and 118 administrative districts of Belarus;
  • Methodical ways of the use as molecular markers of physiological and pathological states, produced by aggressive factors of environment, some blood proteins were developed: thyroxin-connected globulin, haemoglobin, albumin and immunoglobulin.
  • Complex clinic-laboratory survey of the population of some regions of Belarus and patients with allergic sicknesses of respiratory apparatus to immunoglobulin content and functional state of thyroid system was conducted. Gained results will be the basis of methodology development of allergy pathologies of thyroid system diagnostics;
  • Kinetic model of photochemical formation and ozone destruction because of anthropogenic emission of nitric oxides was developed. Influence appraisal of stratospheric ozone transfer to its concentration in surface layer was carried out.
